Aeolian Sailing – Going back

Going back: from Filicudi to Termini Imerese

The Aeolian week is sadly finished. We left Filicudi at 8.00 am heading to Termini Imerese. 52 nautical miles the distance, 6 kts the cruise speed. Arrival expected at 4.30pm

On our right we can see Alicudi Island

We couldn't miss the dolphins.

As soon as we disembarked the Roman acqeduct ruins tell us that the Aeolian holiday is definitely finished.

Aeolian Sailing - Filicudi (sixth leg)

Strombolicchio è un neck, ossia una spina vulcanica, costituita dal magma solidificato di un vulcano di 200.000 anni fa ormai non più esistente.

We decided to sail north FIlicudi to enjoy Punta Zotta, scoglio la Canna and Montessari and Bue Marino Cave. We decided to spend the night in Pecorini a mare where we picked up a mooring buoy.

As soon as we were secured to the buoy we disembarked to visit this fishermen village. I was a bit disappointed by its touristic transformation into an "alternative lifestyle" place, invaded by the so called "radical chic".

Aeolian Sailing – Stromboli (fifth leg)

The fifth leg: Stromboli

From Vulcano to Stromboli it took us 4 hours to sail 26 miles including a quick stop over in Lipari to refuel (just in case).

As we get close to Stromboli, the Volcano sight is very impressive

At sunset we weighed anchor and sailed off the Sciara del fuoco shore to enjoy Stromboli's night eruptions.

A questo punto, possiamo tornare in prossimità del campo boe di Ficogrande per passare la notte.

Aeolian Sailing – Vulcano (fourth leg)

Fourth leg: Vulcano

Dring the fourth leg we moved from Panarea to Vulcano, where we moored at Baia di Levante marina. After topping up the water tanks we go to the hot water beach and great crater climbing.

The light gale from the day before marks our trip from Panarea to Vulcano. Wind speed is 15-20kts. Given the crew expertise I decided to reduce the genoa size to avoid heeling, especially under gust. As soon as we got to Levante port, wind and waves disappeared.

Vulcano baths are closed, but at the hot water beach, digging a bit I was able to get some mud for a facial mask.

Eventually we climbed the Vulcano's great crater

Aeolian Sailing – Panarea (third leg)

Third leg: Panarea

Weather forecast for today's afternoon is wind 10-15kts from west, north-west and waves height 1-1.5m. Anchoring in exposed areas might not be pleasant, so the plan is to sail to Panarea, alongside Cala Junco and anchor in between Lisca Bianca and Bottaro for lunch. Since the weather will get worse, we'll move to San Pietro for dinner and spend the night when it does.

Cala Junco beach is too busy, we decided to skip trying to anchor there.

In between Lisca Bianca and Bottare we found a good anchoring area at 15 metres depth

At 2 pm the gale reaches us. Anchoring is still good with 15kts wind and 20kts gust. Most of the boats in the area decided to leave. At 4.30pm we decided to leave too and have some fun sailing before heading to San Pietro, where we will spend the night.
